About My C1CU

WE WERE 1st - SO YOU CAN BE

We’re Washington state’s first credit union — making a positive difference in the communities we serve for over 90 years. Since our founding in 1925, we’ve been a community of members pooling financial resources to help one another.

As our membership has grown beyond solely serving the US Postal employees in King County, we’ve been able to reach out to many communities throughout the state. As a credit union, members and the needs of communities have directed our growth, rather than the demands of stockholders. How do we do it? We don’t have stockholders — it’s part of the difference you’ll notice when you move away from traditional banks.

THE CREDIT UNION DIFFERENCE

At Community 1st Credit Union you’re a member-owner, not a customer. And unlike a bank, you share in the collective earnings through preferred rates, limited fees, and advancements in financial services.

We’re committed to this community-based model for a more prosperous future for a greater number of people. We welcome member engagement and are invested in their communities and neighborhoods. Our system is cooperative, local, member-owned, volunteer-driven, and not-for-profit.

This is how it’s done:

One Member = One Vote, regardless of the amount of money or the number of services a member has. The Board is volunteer, unpaid, community-focused, made up of members and elected by members. There is an annual call for elections. By comparison, banks are for-profit financial corporations controlled by individuals to the degree that their total values of shares allow. Bank boards are compensated for their service and profits are divided among stockholders.

BE A PART OF THE SOLUTION

Over 82 million Americans enjoy the credit union difference. Gain control of your financial future today by becoming part of a local financial cooperative in your community. We offer both individual and business memberships. Membership is open to all Washington state residents.
